5 out of 5 stars This is how to make rock records   July 12, 2010
Jean J. Crevier (Grande Cache, Alberta CANADA)
If this is going to be the last recording from The German Rock Gods, they have made arguably the best cd of they're career. At least since Blackout. I've been a scorps fan for over 30 yrs and saw them live on the pure instinct tour & will be seeing them again next month to say goodbye to these endearing legends. This new cd is filled with great rockers "scorpions style" & ballads that make you think & make you want to hold your loved one tightly when they're playing. The playing has never been better and Mathias especially, shines through. I always felt he was underrated and can hold his own against anyone. Klaus Meine is in fine form and the rest of the band is on top of they're game. These tunes will fit in perfectly onto the setlist. Record labels take notice. This is how great rock records are made. With lots of passion. They have been around for four decades. They know what it takes.

This band never disappoints. They are back with a fantastic new album and it is as good as anything they did in the past. Buy it and let the music industry know this is how it's done.

4 out of 5 stars The Final Scorpion Album   May 6, 2010
Tommy Morais (New Brunswick, Canada)

Time goes by doesn't it? It's hard to believe that the German band Scorpions released their first album back in 1972 and that just this past March 2010 they released what is said to be their final album. Believe me when I say they still sound amazing even today, Klaus Meine's vocals are top notch and the guitar on Sting In The Tail are excellent and the band preserves that element that makes them so good, that makes them Scorpions. There is no real musical departure here; the album sounds like classic Scorpions and there won't be many surprises to fans except perhaps how good the band sounds on their final album. Sting In The Tail brings back the classic 80's sound of the band but with an updated sound because it was made recently. They want to end their career on a high not and it seems that are definitely doing so with SITT.

Just to go through a few of the songs on the album; I feel that opening song "Raised On Rock" is probably the best song off Sting In The Tail, a great rocker in the vein of classic 80's Scorpions, great riff(reminiscent of something from 1979's "Lovedrive") ,catchy chorus and terrific energy here. The title-track is a solid rocker everything great about the band is in it. I feel that "The Good Die Young" is one of the superior songs on SITT. "Turn You On" is another excellent song that I think will become one of the favorite songs here by fans. I like the ballads as well "Lorelei" and "Sly" are strong ballads in the flavor of "Still Loving You"(and most of the 80's ballad)fans will know what to expect with the ballads on this final Scorpions album. The album ends with "The Best Is Yet To Come" a good ballad that has an ironic title because this is the final album, has some cheesy parts but besides that a great way to end the album.

Sting In The Tail ends up being a solid and consistent collection of songs, a very good album true to the band's classic sound but also with a touch of modern music. Once again a great mix of rockers and ballads. This album is said to be the final in the band's career, you can never know for sure because bands retire and then come back later but I think Scorpions will really retire after the tour supporting this album is completed. I hope the band plays a few songs from Sting In The Tail during the tour they will mix well with the classics! I wouldn't say it's a five star, more a great 4 to me.

4 out of 5 stars Why call it the last one!?   April 18, 2010

After a strong album like "Sting In The Tail", and the approaching/ongoing word tour, Scorpions should perhaps take a vacation as long as they like, and then give us eventually more of their recollected energy ... why call it the last one!?

I have been listening to Scorpions since my teens and now my teenage sons and their friends appreciate their classics as well as their most recent music... ( ... and I did not indoctrinate my kids to like Scorpions, I promise, but they simply discovered and have been liking their music ... ). This tells me that the new generations like the Scorpions opus, and considerable masses will like the new album, too.

"Sting In The Tail" has some great new and refreshing compositions, even for us - the decades-long fans of Scorpions, like "The Good Die Young" and "Lorelei", while the album rockers starting with "Rock Zone", "Let's Rock" and on, are an energetic reflection of the 1980's Scorpions (and ... hmm ... some AC/DC style ...) at their best.

"Sting In The Tail" is not a new "Lovedrive", but it is very good.

4 out of 5 stars Still Got Sting!!!!   April 7, 2010

"Sting in the Tail" re-inforces the true greatness of Scorpions with a good mix of hard rock anthems and beautiful ballads. The production is crisp capturing the sheer energy of the band and Klaus sounds especially fine. Songs such as "Raised on Rock", "Sting in the Tail", "The Good Die Young", "The Best is Yet To Come" or any other track they decide to use on their upcoming tour will fit in well amongst their long list of classics. If this indeed is the Scorpions last album then they've gone out they way they came in with "Sting"!
