4 out of 5 stars Good CD but the product description is inaccurate   February 17, 2010

I've enjoyed this CD quite a bit. But be warned, as I write this, the product description shows that there are 14 tracks on this disc (10 tracks + 4 remixes). The actual CD you get from amazon has only the 10 tracks. I exchanged it and received the same10 track disk in return.

5 out of 5 stars As usual you need to let it grow on you   February 12, 2010

Massive Attack have pretty much made it their trademark that on first listening you really aren't sure, and on the 20th you are accosting people in the street to insist that they buy the album.

And Heligoland is no exception.

The guest vocals (Damon Albarn, Martina Topley-Bird, Guy Garvey) make for real variety and rather than layer these vocals onto their standard fare, they have built the tracks around the voice, making for an intimacy which will pull you in.

Predictably there are dissonant moments - Massive Attack can never resist challenging the listener to dislike them - but they are finely balanced with dreamy dub and, more than any of the work since Blue Lines, this is Music to Get Stoned By. Not that I have or would listen to it stoned, but it certainly has that sound.

Massive Attack have been around far too long to be able to release an album that will have *everyone* claiming it is their best, but Heligoland is a damn good try.
