Mono the Way to Go May 12, 2010

I will not address the music because it is self evident. Having heard Rubber Soul in 'stereo' (too much left-right), I knew Mono was the way to go. I have absolutely no regrets -especially with the new price for Mono. The sound is just short of excellent (see below).
The only way I could imagine a better sound would be on 'audiophile' vinyl or Super Audio CD (SACD). Bob

There is no need to review this product. We all should know by now that these are the latest 'ultimate' remastered Beatle products. They've also left room for the future, with possible 5 - 1 mixes. However, consumers must be made aware that there are COUNTERFEITS out there, both the mono & stereo boxes, and if you bid on, or see one available from an unknown source for an unbelievably low price, DO NOT BUY IT. You will be sorry. My findings are that there are even variations on who is doing the counterfeiting. The mono box is especially pathetic, and it MAY NOT EVEN PLAY! I'm not joking! The fake stereo box can be determined by poor glueing, thin ribbons, and spelling errors on some jackets (see 'Revolver'). If the outside says 'Made in the E.U.', it's a fake. From the outside, the mono box is a little tougher to detect; the fonts are not quite as sharp, and different in size to the real deal. Inside, it's a horribly substandard nightmare of bad glueing, poor cutting, and missing inner sleeves.
If the price is too good to be true, it probably is. The fakes are a total rip-off. Buy only from reputable sources, like Amazon, and be VERY WARY of the 'marketplace', in these cases.
One star is one too many, if it's a counterfeit!

Exept for Yellow Submarine and Abbey Road The Beatles allways did their final mix in MONO.So if you want to hear how they wanted it, that's the occasion.
For example Taxman . On the stereo mix, you hear the bass, drums, gtr all at the left, the ring and the solo gtr at the right and the lead vocal in the center. Kind of odd mix.. On the mono you hear the whole band straight in the center that sounds more rock and united..
Some mono mixes are very different from the stereo mixes. She's Leaving home is not in the same key, the numbers with reverse guitars are also different..If you,re a BIG fan of the Beatles this is a must. If you just like the Beatles the stereo mixes are not that bad..

my husband purchased the Beatles Mono set for me for Christmas & I asked him where he had actually found it - he told me (Future Shop) and then the price - I mentioned Amazon to him & he said to try it just to check on the difference in prices - well - we were both thrilled to save over $150 - plus - I rec'd it in less than a week......the exact same set.
We will definitely be using Amazon again....

Music can bring back priceless memories. Music has a way of putting you in a time and space that can never be repeated . Like your youth, it happens once and then it is time to move on. The Beatles and their music are one of those moments that you can define. Songs that were playing when you first discovered love with that special girl or an event that changed your life in a small way. This collection will have you smiling and thinking about those days when life was simple and maybe carefree. I love it and listen to it everyday.
