5 out of 5 stars Watching a prodigy   March 20, 2010

Oh my gosh. I still cannot believe what I see and hear. A thirteen year old singing and scatting her way through some of the most venerable jazz tunes interpreted by the legends of jazz. And her voice has just gotten better over the years, if one did hear her rendition of 'Oh Canada' at the opening ceremonies of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. TALENT, in all uppercase, if this generation has heard one. This CD/DVD combo is highly recommended as a buy before it becomes a collectors item. Way to go, Nikki and I cannot wait for your new album and to see you live in concert.

Nikki Yanofsky is a find! She appears to be able to sing anything, but her jazz interpretations are the best.

What a delight for my old ears. Nikki Yanofsky has helped to restore my faith in young musical talent. As a person living in the USA, I had not heard of her until she was mentioned one evening on the National News: NBC Evening News with Brian Williams. At the end of his program that day he featured Nikki performing her version of "Lullaby of Birdland". I was blown away by this young woman's voice and her remarkable ability to use it on the songs on this CD. She refers to herself as being only 13 prior to performing "At Last", and then (in my opinion) rivaling Etta James' performance of this number. Dedicating "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" to the two Ellas - her late grandmother, and Ella Fitzgerald - she belts out a fabulous version of this old standard. I was further amazed at her renderings of "scat" on the CD. Very few performers have the ability to do this, and she carries it off with style. I am certain that Ella Fitzgerald would have loved to hear this young lady perform. Unfortunately she passed away about the time Nikki was born. I had to order her CD from Amazon Canada, as it was no longer available on the US website. I am certainly glad I was able to obtain it, and I look forward to her next CD. This girl is a real trooper! What a wonderful voice!
