From Amazon.com Home of "Smoke on the Water" and "Highway Star," Machine Head blends proto-metal density with epic arrangements, resulting in a record that's far more grandiose than the sum of its parts. --Jon Wiederhorn

Good Album but Poor Sound Quality July 12, 2009 Luap Van Horn (Niagara Falls, Canada) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a GREAT album/CD but MAYBE because it's recorded in the Stones mobile sound studio, I just found the sound quility wasn't the best and the volume output was low!My hearing is impaired in BOTH ears, so maybe it's just me!Anyways, still highly recomended! I LOVE "LAZY" Jon Lord is great at his organ!!!!
Since buying the ORIGINAL single version, I purchsed the 2 CD set of the deluxe version. BUY IT, the sound quality and volume are 100% better!!!!
Sounds almost like a completely different CD. "Purple" fans will love this 2 CD set!!
I forgot how much I loved this album! April 1, 2009 Fred G. Nickerson (Brandon, MB) I first purchased this album as a teenager in 1973. Smoke on the Water was so overplayed that it eventually became a joke, and this album was relegated to back benches.
I heard Highway Star on the radio last summer and decided to reacquire Machine Head.
It is definitely a classic metal album!! The music is so energetic & heavy, I have to say I have really missed it. Richie Blackmore is a guitar god!
The lyrics may be lame, but the hard driving music set a new high water mark at the time.
My ten year old son heard this CD once and had me load it onto his iPod!!
Killer Rock and Roll November 21, 2005 Snakeman (Canada) This album is essential for any fans of rock music. This is hard rock at it's finest. The highlights of the album are 'Smoke on the Water' (with the most well-known guitar riff of all time), the blistering 'Highway Star', 'Space Truckin', and my personal favourite, 'Lazy'. With the awesome organ intro/solo and one of the greatest guitar solos of all time, 'Lazy' alone makes this album worth the price of admission. 'Machine Head' is a must-have for all guitarists and fans of rock and roll music.
Awesome album from one of the world's greatest rock bands February 15, 2005 Johnny (Regina, SK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Machine Head is one of Deep Purple's greatest albums. It opens with one of my favorite tracks, the thundering "Highway Star", and just rolls on after, through hits like "Smoke on the Water" and "Space Truckin'", and some lesser-known tracks like "Pictures of Home" and "Never Before". I would definately recommend to any hard rock enthusiast.
Deep Purple's answer to Zep IV July 18, 2004 Brave New World Man (The Theater of Dreams) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
While not bursting with quite the magic that Zoso had, Machine Head is still one of the greatest rock albums ever. It opens with the awesome "Highway Star". Throughout the entire CD, Ritchie Blackmore proves he is one of the most talented guitarists of all time, but his solo during the 2nd half of "Highway Star" and his opening riff on "Smoke on the Water" are shockingly good. Although "Highway Star" and "Smoke on the Water" are the two big hits here, the rest of the material is strong, too. "Lazy" is a long (mostly instrumental) track with tinges of jazz, "Maybe I'm a Leo", "Pictures of Home", and "Never Before" are excellent tunes to rock to, and the closer "Space Truckin'" showcases Ian Gillan's kickass vocals and is a good way to end the album. There is no filler on this album. Highly recommended.
